Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 127 Ezra BRAINERD, educator, Middlebury [Addison County, Vermont], was born 17 December 1844 St. Albans [Franklin County, Vermont], son of Lawrence Robbins and Katherine (WOOD) BRAINERD. Educated at St. Albans High School; Middlebury College, A. B. 1864; and Andover Theological Seminary 1868; degree of LL. D. from University of Vermont 1888, and D. D. Howard University 1900; was tutor Middlebury College 1864-1866; professor of rhetoric and English literature Middlebury College 1868-1880; professor of physics and applied mathematics 1880-1885; president Middlebury College 01 July 1885 to 01 July 1908; in 1887 was appointed a commissioner to revise school laws of Vermont. In 1868 he [Ezra BRAINERD] married [Miss?] Frances V. ROCKWELL of Middlebury, who died 11 January 1893; they had six children: (1) Elizabeth DeLong, Mrs. C. C. PLEHN; (2) Bertha, Mrs. C. A. ADAMS; (3) Frances Viola, Mrs. Dudley BAIRD; (4) Ezra; (5) Miranda Stranahan; and (6) Alice Beaumelle. On 25 December 1897 he [Ezra BRAINERD] married [Miss?] Mary E. WRIGHT of New Haven [Addison County, Vermont]; they have two children: (1) Dorothy Ellen, and (2) Katherine Wright.
