PARTCH, a prosperous citizen of New Haven [Addison County], Vermont, was born 18 February 1857 in Hinesburg [Chittenden County], Vermont, a descendant of a family who have made their home in Vermont for several generations. "Dr." Thomas Philip PARTCH, grandfather of William H. PARTCH, was born in 1790 in Hinesburg, Vermont, and after acquiring a common school education he turned his attention to farming in Hinesburg, where he spent the greater part of his life. He [Thomas Philip PARTCH] was united in marriage to Miss Lefa LAWRENCE, who was born in 1795 in Hinesburg, Vermont, and their children were: (1) Lyman, (2) William M., (3) Mrs. Charles POST, (4) Mrs. Dean HOSFORD, and (5) Mrs. Monroy PARMELEE. "Dr." [Thomas Philip] PARTCH died in Hinesburg at the age of seventy-five years, and his wife [Lefa (LAWRENCE) PARTCH] died at the age of eighty years. William M. PARTCH, son of "Dr." [Thomas Philip] PARTCH, was born in 1820 in Hinesburg [Chittenden County], Vermont. He was engaged in the occupation of farming until 1861, when he removed to Bristol [Addison County], Vermont, and became the proprietor of an hotel which he conducted successfully for nine years. After the expiration of this period he located in New Haven [Addison County], Vermont, purchased an hotel and also a fine farm. He subsequently disposed of this property to his sons, William H. and Frederick M. PARTCH. He [William M. PARTCH] married Miss Martha POST, who was born in 1825 in Hinesburg, Vermont, a daughter of Alson POST, who was engaged in agricultural pursuits in Hinesburg all his life, and died there at the age of eighty-four years. The following named children were born of this union [of William M. and Martha (POST) PARTCH]: (1) Carleton, a resident of Michigan; (2) Anna, who resides in Burlington [Chittenden County], Vermont; (3) William H., a resident of New Haven [Addison County], Vermont; (4) Frederick M., also living in New Haven; (5) Clayton, of Burlington, Vermont; (6) Martha, also of Burlington; and (7) Cecil, who also makes his home in Burlington, Vermont. The mother of these children is still living. William H. PARTCH, second son of William M. and Martha (POST) PARTCH, spent the early years of his life in Hinesburg, but his education was acquired in the common schools of Bristol, Vermont, and the academy at New Haven, Vermont [both in Addison County]. He was then engaged with his brother Frederick in the hotel business up to 1893, when he disposed of his interest in the business. In 1901 Mr. PARTCH purchased the farm of his father-in-law, George P. HATHORNE, which consisted of one hundred and eighty acres, which he devoted to dairying and general farming, and in the management of his agricultural interests he has met with gratifying success. In his political affiliations he is a staunch advocate of the principles of the Republican party, and has served as selectman for three years, also as chairman of the town board. He is a consistent member of the Congregational church of New Haven, serves in the capacity of deacon, and takes an active interest in all the work connected with it. In 1893 Mr. [William H.] PARTCH married Miss Florence HATHORNE, who was born 11 October 1856 in New Haven [Addison County], Vermont, a daughter of George P. HATHORNE, who was a prominent and successful farmer of the town of New Haven, Vermont, and held the office of selectman and also served as deacon of the Congregational church for a number of years. Mr. HATHORNE married Miss Almena CLARK, and the following named children were born to them [to George P. and Almena (CLARK) HATHORNE]: (1) Alvan, (2) Frank, professor of music in Potsdam [St. Lawrence County], New York, (3) Henry, (4) Charles, and (5) Lucia HATHORNE, all of whom are successful in their various callings. The father of these children [George P. HATHORNE] died in 1900, at the age of seventy-four years, and his wife [Almena (CLARK) HATHORNE] died in 1899 at the age of seventy-seven years. Two children were born to Mrs. and Mrs. PARTCH [to William H. and Florence (HATHORNE) PARTCH: (1) Hazel, and (2) Raymond PARTCH. Mrs. PARTCH [Florence] was educated in the academy at New Haven, Vermont, later at the Mt. Holyoke Seminary; she has taken an active part in all educational work; she was engaged as a grade teacher in Morristown [Morris County], New Jersey, and served as principal of the primary school. She also occupied the responsible position of preceptress of Beeman Academy of New Haven, Vermont, and was elected superintendent of the Junior Endeavor Society.
