BRIGGEBOOS, William History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 162 William BRIGGEBOOS, brewer, Alma [Buffalo County, Wisconsin], was born 30 January 1834 in Germany. [The 1880 census of Alma (p 324 C) has Walter BRIGGEBOOS, age as forty-six, beer brewer, born in Germany to parents also born in Germany, consistent with the information given in this biography.] When he was twenty years of age [1855?] he came to America, and was first located in Galveston [Galveston County], Texas. The following year [1856?] he came to Alma, and, until 1866, was engaged in the wood business, when he purchased the Alma Brewery, of which he has since been proprietor. In 1861 William BRIGGEBOOS married Ursilla MENLY [a maiden name?], a native of Switzerland. [MENLI is probably spelled "MENLI" in Swiss records. The 1880 census lists Ursula as his wife, age forty-four born (about 1836) in Switzerland to parents also born there.] They [William and Ursilla MENLI] have three children [approximate years of birth calculated from census ages and added]: (1) Christina, born about 1862; (2) Julia, born about 1866; and (3) Meno, census lists as "Wilhelmina," born about 1874.
