HOLSTEIN, superintendent of Meridean Mill Company's [saw] mills at Alma [Buffalo County, Wisconsin], was born 25 December 1839 at Rock Island [Rock Island County], Illinois. He has been in the lumber business for the past twenty-two years. He located at Alma 16 February 1880. [There were also lumber mills near Meridean, Dunn County, Wisconsin, but submitter is uncertain if these were operated by the "Meridean Mill Company" mentioned in this biography.] On 13 March 1870, Silas V. HOLSTEIN was united in marriage to Miss Emily C. JOHNSON, a native of Ohio. [The 1880 census of Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, contains the household of Silas V. Bracketed material added by submitter (who is not researching these surnames) to support and clarify information given in the biography and to raise questions.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
