IRMSCHER, Charles History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 167 Charles IRMSCHER, foreman of Teekenburg's [Techenburg's] saw mill, Fountain City [Cross Township (per 1878 Atlas), Buffalo County, Wisconsin], was born 08 January 1834 in Germany. He came to the United States in 1849, first locating in Manitowoc County [Wisconsin], where he lived for two years, then went to Sheboygan County [Wisconsin], and in 1854 came to Fountain City, where he has made his home ever since. In March 1865 he enlisted in Company K, Forty-eighth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war as sergeant of that company, afterwards returning to Fountain City. [The Civil War officially ended in early April 1865.] In 1857 he [Charles IRMSCHER] married [Miss?] Fredrica [Friedericka?] MEYER, who was born in Germany. They have had a family of thirteen children, seven of whom are living: (1) Emma, now Mrs. John SMITH, of Dakota; (2) Frederick [Friedrich?]; (3) Mary, now Mrs. Jacob ERLER; (4) Charles; (5) Bernhart [Bernhard?]; (6) Phillip [Philipp?]; and (7) Albine [Alwina?]. Mr. [Charles] IRMSCHER has held the office of Justice of the Peace in Fountain City for one year, also Treasurer one year. [Similar spellings of ERLER in the records such as census include EHLER and EHELER, and possibly ELLER.] [The Charles IRMSCHER family is enumerated in the 1880 census of Fountain City, Buffalo County, Wisconsin: Charles, age forty-six, mechanic in a saw mill, born in Saxony to parents also born there; his wife, Friedericka, age forty-one, born in Prussia to parents also born there; and the following children of Charles IRMSCHER, all born in Wisconsin to a father born in Saxony and a mother born in Prussia: (1) Friedrich, age nineteen, by his census age born about 1861, single, employed on a steamboat; (2) Mary, age seventeen, thus born about 1863, at home; (3) Charles, age fifteen, born about 1865, at home; (4) Bernhard, age twelve, born about 1868, at school; (5) Philipp, age nine, born about 1871; (6) Alwina, age three, born about 1877; and (7) Laura, age three months, born in 1880, about three months before the 1880 census was enumerated. Since this census includes the daughter, Mary, she was likely, if the biography is correct, married to Jacob ERLER between the 1880 census enumeration date and the date in 1881 when the text was published.
