WILTSE, lawyer, Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County, Wisconsin, was born 29 May 1823 in Clarence, Erie County, New York, and lived there until he came to Wisconsin. He came to this state in September 1850. He located at Mukwanago, Waukesha County [Wisconsin], where he resided until 1862, when he came to the town of Lafayette, Chippewa County, where he purchased a large farm and resided on it until 1868, when he removed to Chippewa Falls. He was County Judge from 1865 to 1868, and resigned that position in 1868. While in Lafayette [Chippewa County, Wisconsin] he was Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk, and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Since coming to Chippewa Falls, he has been Member of the Legislature, Justice of the Peace, District Attorney and City Attorney, holding the latter position for five years. Ever since 1868 he has been engaged in active practice of law. He [C. J. WILTSE] was first married to Ellen M. TANNER [a maiden name?], a native of Clarence [Erie County], New York. She [Ellen M. WILTSE] died 21 January 1870. Six children of this marriage [of C. J. and Ellen M. WILTSE] are now [1881] living: (1) Rachel R., now Mrs. John SELLERS, of Pine City [Pine County], Minnesota; (2) Ellen; (3) Alice, now Mrs. Hector C. McREA; (4) Diana, now the wife of Judge William P. SWIFT, of Barron County, Wisconsin; (5) Thomas and (6) Sarah. The Judge's present wife [the present wife of C. J. WILTSE] was Mary Frances BILLIARD [a maiden name?].
