Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 102 Alton B. ASHLEY, Postmaster, Milton, was born 12 April 1874 at Milton [Chittenden County, Vermont], son of Azro B. and Jane (WARNER) ASHLEY. He was educated at Milton graded school. Mr. ASHLEY entered the employ of the Franklin County Creamery at St. Albans [Franklin County, Vermont] April 1892, remaining with them twelve years; was manager of the hardware business of W. H. Hale & Company, 1896-1900; was in the hardware business for himself from 1900 to 01 Jan 1909; and was appointed postmaster [of Milton] by Theodore Roosevelt on 11 Mar 1908. In 1896 Mr. ASHLEY married Lillian E. PERRY of Milton. They have three children living: Mildred J., Laura May, and Kenneth Clement. Mr. ASHLEY is a Republican; school trustee six years; lister three years; and has been village clerk since May 1905. He served on the Chittenden County Republican committee 1906-1907. He is an attendant of the Congregational Church; member of Amitie Camp No. 8038, Modern Woodmen of America, served as clerk eight years; and a member of Seneca Lodge No. 40, Free & Accepted Masons, elected secretary 1911.
