DAVISON, clergyman, Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], was born 15 September 1866 in Ireland, son of William and Elizabeth (CLARK) DAVISON. Educated in Worchester Academy, Brown University, and graduated from Colgate Divinity School in 1896. Received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from Middlebury College in 1905. Ordained into the Baptist ministry in 1893. Was pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Utica [Oneida County], New York, from 1893 to 1896; pastor of the First Baptist Church, Montpelier [Washington County], Vermont, from 1896 to 1899, and has been state secretary and superintendent of missions for the Vermont Baptist State Convention since 1899. Under his management the amount expended yearly for missionary work in the state has increased since 1899 from $4,000 to $16,000, and the permanent fund from $24,000 to $214,000. In 1902 Mr. [William A. DAVISON] DAVISON married [Miss?] Gertrude M. JOHNSON of Burlington; they have two children: Winifred Esther and Eleanor Mae. [A section on the history of Peru, Bennington County in Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, page 211, notes the following about a John DAVISON: "Deacon John DAVISON died in 1858, aged eighty-six years and eight months. He rode two miles to church, on horseback, until within a month or two before his death. He was a earnest, energetic Christian."
