Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1880, p 665 James AMES, butcher [Emmet Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin], was born in the town of Macedon, Wayne County, New York, on 04 July 1844. The year of his birth [1844] his parents, with their family, removed to Wisconsin and engaged in farming; located on Section 22, in the Town of Emmett, Dodge County. James was engaged in farming pursuits until he commenced his present business in 1878. Mr. AMES was Town Clerk in Emmett Township, Dodge County, for two years. He was President of the St. Bernard's Temperance and Benevolent Society of Watertown. He was a delegate to the Catholic Total Abstinence Convention, of America, which was held in Chicago in October 1874. On 08 February 1874 he [James AMES] married Lizie DARLING. She was born in town of Emmett, Dodge County, Wisconsin. They [James and Lizie (DARLING) AMES] have two children: Mary and Lizzie. Mr. and Mrs. AMES are members of the Catholic Church.
