From Memorial and Genealogical Record of Dodge and Jefferson Counties, Wisconsin, publ. 1894 - Page 126-127 PETER PETERS. The office of sheriff is one that has been filled by the illustrious head of this Government, and is a position that demands great circumspection, great personal courage and a general and apt intelligence. The county of Dodge, Wis., is fortunate in its choice of its present incumbent, Peter PETERS, who adds to strict integrity the other qualities essential to thorough discharge of the responsibilities connected with the station. He was born in the town of Herman, in the county in which he now lives, November 21, 1852, a son of John and Eva (DUNNEN) PETERS, the former of whom was born in Oberliken, Prussia, Germany, April 24, 1824, and was married in the old country to Miss DUNNEN, who was born in what was then France but is now a portion of Germany. About 1849 they came to America and very soon afterward settled in the town of Herman in Dodge County, Wis., and after successfully tilling the soil with the usual thrift of the German, they gave up this occupation and are now residing in Rubicon. On the farm in this county the subject of this sketch was reared, and here he acquired a thorough and practical knowledge of the details of agricultural life. His education was by no means neglected while he was growing up, and such advantages as the common schools of that vicinity afforded were his. Through good management and energy he has become the owner of an excellent and well- improved farm of 165 acres in the township of Rubicon, but since entering upon the duties of his present official position he has made his home in Juneau. January 3, 1892, he was married at Neosho, to Miss Magdalena HEISE, a daughter of Matthew HEISE. She was born in Rubicon and is an intelligent and amiable lady. To her union with Mr. PETERS seven children have been born, three sons and four daughters: Lizzie, Albert, Frank, Angeline, Clements, Mary, and Julia. Mr. PETERS has always been a Democrat in politics, and on that ticket was elected to the office of sheriff in 1891. The family are Catholics, and in this faith the mother of Mr. PETERS died, October 1, 1881. Submitted by Carol
