REV. HUMPHREY P. HOWELL, Pastor of the Welsh, Calvanistic Methodist Church, was born in Wales in 1839; came to the United States in 1855, and spent eight years, partly in Wisconsin and Ohio, but most of the time in school.  He returned to Wales in the fall of 1862, and remained five and one half years, during which time he took a collegiate course at Bala College, in North Wales, graduating in 1867; returned to the United States in the Spring of 1868 and has been in his present pastorate since the Fall of 1869.  In accordance with the custom of his Church he was ordained for the ministry at the annual meeting of the Synod of Wisconsin in 1872.  Mr. HOWELL married in 1874 to Miss Margaret WILLIAMS, daughter of Rev. Robert WILLIAMS, of La Crosse.  They have two children.  He was, in 1879, President of the Wisconsin Synod of his denomination.  He is Secretary of the Committee on "Fund for Education of Ministers," and a contributor to the denominational press.
