REV. HUMPHREY P. HOWELL,
Pastor of the Welsh, Calvanistic Methodist Church, was born in Wales in 1839; came to the United States in 1855, and spent eight
years, partly in Wisconsin and Ohio, but most of the time
in school. He returned to Wales in the fall of 1862,
and remained five and one half years, during which time he took a collegiate
course at Bala College, in North Wales, graduating in 1867;
returned to the United States in the Spring of 1868 and has been in his present pastorate since
the Fall of 1869. In accordance with the custom of his Church he was
ordained for the ministry at the annual meeting of the Synod of Wisconsin in
1872. Mr. HOWELL married in 1874 to Miss Margaret WILLIAMS, daughter of
Rev. Robert WILLIAMS, of La Crosse. They have two
children. He was, in 1879, President of the Wisconsin Synod of his
denomination. He is Secretary of the Committee on "Fund for
Education of Ministers," and a contributor to the denominational press.
