REV. JOHN B. STEWART, D.D., former pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church, is a native of Alleghany County, Pennsylvania.  He graduated in 1849, from the Washington and Jefferson College, Pennsylvania.  His theological education was received at the Western Theological Seminary in Alleghany City.  Mr. STEWART was ordained pastor of his first charge at Wooster, Ohio, in 1854; was next at Cincinnati, and then at Davenport, Iowa.  Since October, 1872, he has been pastor in charge of Calvary Church.  In 1853 he was married to Miss Nancy McGREGOR, of Jefferson County, Ohio.  They have one daughter, Mary - now Mrs. DAGGETT - living in Kansas City, Missouri.  He has held various official relations in the church.  The degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred upon him simultaneously by two Universities.  He has been actively identified with the leading enterprises of the Church during his ministry, and is regarded as an able thinker and a sound theologian.  Dr. STEWART resigned the pastorate of Calvary Church at the close of 1880, and removed to Des Moines, Iowa.
