REV. EDWARD R. WARD, Pastor
of Christ Church, was born in Masulipatam, in British India, on the 7th of October, 1841. His father was a judge in the Madras
Presidency, and died when his son was a year old. He was educated at Cheltenham College and Exeter College, Oxford, England. At both
institutions was a "prizeman." He landed in New York on the first day of
November, 1866, was three years engaged in business. In October, 1870, he
entered Nashotah Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in May,
1873. He was ordained deacon June 8, 1873, by Right Rev. Bishop
ARMITAGE, and was ordained priest the following year by Bishop WHITEHOUSE, of Illinois. Immediately
after his ordination as deacon he entered Cathedral work and is now Resident
Canon of the Cathedral and Chaplain of St. Cornelius - Soldiers'
Home. Since January, 1874, he has been in charge of Christ Church, which during the time
has developed from a mission to a parish. He is proprietor and editor of
the Western Church, which is devoted to
the catholicity of the Episcopal Church. He is Examining Chaplain of this
Diocese and is Secretary for Wisconsin of the "Free
Church Association," which is an association found wherever the English Church exists. He was
married April 25, 1878, to Miss Ellen E. MORRIS, daughter of
Manoah and Marcia MORRIS, of Thirty-fourth street, Milwaukee. They have one
son, born July 19, 1879, and named Edward Neville. Residence, rare of the church. He is a gentlemen of extended travels, broad culture, and an
independent progressive spirit.
